Local Pack

The map-based section of Google search results that displays three local business listings with their name, rating, address, and a map pin.

Why It Matters for Your Business

The local pack is the single most visible spot in Google's search results for local businesses. It appears above the traditional blue-link results, complete with a map, star ratings, and direct contact options. For someone searching "AC repair Melbourne FL," the three businesses in that local pack get the vast majority of clicks and calls.

If you're a Brevard County business and you're not showing up in the local pack, you're invisible to a huge portion of potential customers. Studies show that nearly half of all Google searches have local intent, and the local pack captures most of that traffic. It's where buying decisions happen.

How It Works

Google selects which three businesses appear in the local pack based on a combination of signals:

Consider two Titusville dentists with similar ratings. The one with 200 reviews, an active Google Business Profile with weekly posts, and consistent listings across 50+ directories will almost always appear in the local pack over the one with 30 reviews and an incomplete profile.

Note

Search for your main service plus your city (like "landscaping Palm Bay FL") in an incognito browser window. If you're not in the top three results in the map section, that's your local pack gap. Note which competitors are there and study what they're doing differently.

What's the difference between the local pack and Google Maps?
The local pack is the three-listing box that appears within regular Google search results. Google Maps is the full map application. They use the same data and ranking factors, but the local pack is what most people see first because it shows up right on the search results page.
How do I get my business into the local pack?
You need a verified Google Business Profile with complete information, consistent NAP (name, address, phone) across all directories, strong reviews, and local relevance. There's no shortcut. Google picks the three businesses that best match the searcher's query, location, and intent.
Does every search show a local pack?
No. The local pack only appears when Google detects local intent in the search. Searches like 'plumber near me' or 'dentist in Cocoa Beach' trigger it. Generic searches like 'how to fix a leaky faucet' typically don't.
