What Does a Top-Ranked Google Business Profile Look Like?

A top-ranked Google Business Profile is complete, posted to every week, answered, and still collecting reviews. In Brevard County the average profile was 69% complete, 2.1% of businesses posted weekly, 85.6% had ten or more photos, 87.6% answered at least some reviews, and the median profile held 66 reviews and added 2 a month while the top tenth added 19.5 (97 businesses across 12 trades, first quarter 2026). Across Florida the typical top-20 listing carries 276 reviews in HVAC, 119 for plumbers and 76 for roofers (93 cities, Google Places, July and October 2026). Those are habits you repeat, not a one-time fix, and the review bar changes by trade and city.

The checklist, in the order to work it

  1. 1Complete every field: primary category, services, attributes, hours, service area, description, website link.
  2. 2Post to the profile every week.
  3. 3Answer every review, within hours.
  4. 4Keep new reviews arriving every month, with a request after each finished job.
  5. 5Add photos from real jobs, not stock images.
  6. 6Match the name, address, phone and hours on the profile to your website and the directories.

Question 1

How complete is a top-ranked profile?

Nearly all the way. Completion means the primary category, the extra categories, services, attributes, hours, service area, description and website link are all filled in and current.

The Space Coast average is 69% (97 businesses, March 2026), so the average profile leaves about a third of the fields blank. Services were listed on 67% of profiles, attributes on 49.5%, a Q&A on 29.9% and products on 4.1%. Those blanks are the cheapest fix on the list.

Question 2

How often does a top-ranked profile post?

Weekly, and almost nobody does. In Brevard County, 2.1% of businesses had posted four or more times in the previous 30 days and 35.1% had posted at all (97 businesses, March 2026). A post is an offer, an update, or a finished job with a photo.

This habit is the rarest of the five, which is why a posting schedule is the first routine to set.

Question 3

How many reviews does a top-ranked profile hold?

The count that matters is the one for your trade in your city, not a national figure. In Brevard County the median profile held 66 Google reviews at a median rating of 4.6 (97 businesses across 12 trades, March 2026).

Across Florida, the typical top listing holds 276 reviews in HVAC, 119 in plumbing and 76 in roofing. The typical top plumber holds 905 in Tampa and 1,228 in Orlando, against 188 in Titusville (93 cities, 2026).

Question 4

Does a top-ranked profile answer its reviews?

Yes. In Brevard County, 87.6% of businesses had answered at least some of their reviews (97 businesses across 12 trades, March 2026), so a profile with no replies sits in the bottom eighth of its market. A reply within hours, in the owner's voice, is the habit.

Answering the bad reviews counts most, because the next customer reads those first.

Question 5

How fast does a top-ranked profile collect new reviews?

Faster than the median. In Brevard County the median business added 2 new reviews a month, the top tenth added 19.5, and 14.4% added none (97 businesses, March 2026). A profile that stopped collecting reviews a year ago looks abandoned, even with a high count.

The pace comes from a request after every finished job. A six-office Florida handyman company went from 1.8 to 5.5 reviews a week after launch, with a request sent after every finished job.

Question 6

Does the website matter to the profile?

Yes. The profile earns the map pack call and the website earns the click, so the two must show the same business: same name, address, phone, hours and services. In Brevard County, 64.9% of businesses had a website and 25.8% carried structured data on it (97 businesses, March 2026); among 3,073 top-ranked Florida sites in 93 cities, 74.4% carry it.

Without a website there is nothing for the click, or the schema, to land on.

Question 7

Do these habits cause the ranking?

The figures describe the market across 12 trades, not a proven cause. Google ranks the map pack on relevance, distance and prominence, and a complete, active, well-reviewed profile feeds all three. The habits are the part you control.

Distance is the part you do not control, so a complete profile in the wrong part of town still loses some searches.

Question 8

Where should I start if my profile is below the bar?

Fill the blank fields first, because that takes an afternoon. Then set the posting schedule, then the review request after each job, then the reply habit. Photos from real jobs go in as they happen.

If the profile is suspended, none of this counts until it is reinstated, so start with the appeal.
