What Does a WordPress SEO Service Include?

A WordPress SEO service covers eleven things: an audit of the theme, builder and plugins; one SEO plugin configured once; tag, date and attachment archives closed; permalinks and redirects in one place; speed and Core Web Vitals on a phone; images compressed and sized; LocalBusiness and Service schema in place of the plugin's defaults; titles, headings and copy on the pages that sell; a Google Business Profile that matches the site; city and service pages that say something true; and a report that counts calls before rankings. Of 97 Space Coast businesses audited in March 2026, the 63 with a website had a median mobile speed score of 48 and 25.8% of businesses carried structured data, so on most WordPress sites the first weeks are cleanup.

The eleven checks, in the order to do them

  1. 1Audit the install: theme, page builder, every active plugin, caching, hosting.
  2. 2Keep one SEO plugin and configure it once; remove the duplicates.
  3. 3Noindex tag, date, author and attachment archives; trim the sitemap.
  4. 4Settle permalinks and put every redirect rule in one place.
  5. 5Fix speed and Core Web Vitals on a phone: cache, scripts, fonts, templates.
  6. 6Compress and size images; lazy-load everything below the first screen.
  7. 7Replace the plugin's default schema with LocalBusiness and Service markup.
  8. 8Rewrite titles, headings and copy on the service pages that take the calls.
  9. 9Match the Google Business Profile to the site, field for field.
  10. 10Write city and service pages with something true in each one.
  11. 11Report calls and form fills first, rankings second, and the work done each month.

Question 1

What does the WordPress audit look at?

The theme and whether it is a page builder, every active plugin and what each loads on the front end, the caching setup, the host, the permalink structure, the redirect rules, the archive settings, the XML sitemap, the robots rules and the schema the site already outputs. The audit is the written list of what to change and why; the monthly work follows it.

The audit is also the scope. A fee quoted without one is a guess about how many hours of cleanup the site needs before any new page can rank.

Question 2

Which SEO plugin should a WordPress site run?

One of Yoast or Rank Math, configured once and left alone. It writes titles and descriptions, builds the sitemap, sets canonicals, gives you the noindex switches for the archives, adds breadcrumbs and basic schema, and in Rank Math manages redirects. Two SEO plugins installed by two developers write two sitemaps and two schema blocks, and the second one goes.

The plugin does not pick keywords, write a service page, remove the plugins that slow the site, fill LocalBusiness schema with your hours and service area, build a citation or count a call. A green light in the editor means the page is formatted, not that it ranks.

Question 3

Why do tag and archive pages hurt a WordPress site?

WordPress publishes a page for every tag, category, month and author, and can publish one for every uploaded image. A site with a few dozen posts and more tags than posts has more thin archive pages than real ones, and Google spends its crawl on them while the service pages wait.

The fix is in the SEO plugin: noindex the tag, date, author and attachment archives, keep category pages only where the category has real search intent and a written introduction, and remove the archives from the sitemap.

Question 5

How fast does a WordPress site need to be?

Fast enough on a mid-range phone over mobile data, because that is what Google scores. Of the 63 Space Coast business sites read in March 2026 (97 businesses), the median mobile speed score was 48 of 100, 1 passed Core Web Vitals and the average largest contentful paint was about 4 seconds.

On WordPress the causes are usually a builder and theme that load everything everywhere, too many plugins, no page cache, render-blocking scripts and third-party fonts, and slow shared hosting. The fixes follow the same order: a page cache, plugin removals, deferred scripts, fonts on your own domain, lighter templates on the pages that matter, and a hosting change only if the server is the bottleneck.

Question 6

What should happen to the images on a WordPress site?

Compression, a modern format such as WebP, dimensions that match the space on the page, and lazy loading on everything below the first screen. A phone photo uploaded straight from the camera roll is several thousand pixels wide and several megabytes, and WordPress will serve it as the hero of the page unless something stops it.

The one image above the fold is the exception: it loads eagerly so the page's main element appears sooner.

Question 7

What schema should a WordPress business site carry?

LocalBusiness markup with the same name, address, phone, hours and service area as the Google profile, a Service block on each service page, and FAQPage markup only where the questions and answers are visible on the page. The SEO plugin's default (WebPage on every page, a Person or Organization stub) is the wrong type for a local business and is replaced, then checked in Google's Rich Results test.

In the March 2026 Space Coast audit, 25.8% of 97 businesses had structured data on their site. Among 3,073 page-one Florida business sites read in July and October 2026 across 93 cities, 74.4% carried it.

Question 8

What on-page work does the service do in WordPress?

Titles, meta descriptions, headings, body copy, internal links and image alt text on the service pages and city pages, matched to the words customers type. The work happens inside your admin with an editor or administrator account; on-page edits do not touch the theme.

Starter covers five core pages and Growth fifteen, with new posts published in WordPress at two and four a month.

Question 9

How does the Google Business Profile fit a WordPress SEO plan?

The profile is not on the site, but it points at it. Its website link should land on the page that matches its primary category, its name, address and phone should match the footer and the schema character for character, and every service listed on the profile should have a page.

The site has to exist first. Of 97 Space Coast businesses audited in March 2026, 64.9% had a website at all.

Question 10

What makes a WordPress city page worth publishing?

Something true about that city: the neighborhoods you work in, the jobs you have done there, the permit or licence rules that differ, the drive time from your shop. A page builder makes it easy to duplicate a page and swap the town name, and Google treats a template with the city replaced as the same page many times over.

Service pages come before city pages, because the service page takes the call.

Question 11

What should the monthly report show?

Calls and form fills first, then Google Business Profile actions, then rankings for the keywords in the plan, then the pages changed and the citations built that month, so the work and the fee sit side by side. Starter sends a monthly ranking and call tracking report with a quarterly strategy call; Growth sends weekly ranking and call tracking reports with a monthly call.

Compare each month with the same month a year earlier where you can. Seasonal trades swing with the weather, and a rankings-only report hides that.
