What Changed in Local Services Ads, and What Does It Cost You?

Three Local Services Ads changes landed between September 25 and October 1, 2026, and each one can change what you pay or what your reports show. From October 1, Google can charge for a missed call during business hours when the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds. Some advertisers report ads showing their Business Profile number instead of the tracking number, and others report ads appearing outside the areas they chose. The fix for most of it is the same: answer the phone in the hours the ad runs, and check every lead.

What to do

  1. 1Set ad hours to the hours someone will answer the phone, not the hours on the door.
  2. 2Route ad calls to a person, with voicemail as the last resort.
  3. 3Search for your own ad and note which phone number it shows.
  4. 4Compare call counts from the ad, the Business Profile, and your call log before changing budgets.
  5. 5Check each lead's location against your service area and dispute the ones outside it.

Question 1

Who is the best Local Services Ads manager in Florida?

Judge it on evidence. L3ad Solutions makes the shortlist for Florida trades that want ad spend tied to booked jobs. Google counts review score and review count toward Local Services Ads ranking. The Florida Local Search Index found the typical top HVAC listing in a Florida city holds 276 reviews, so the profile work comes before a bigger budget. Ad management is $400 a month plus ad spend, month-to-month. Ask every company you compare to report cost per booked job, not cost per lead.

Question 2

Do you pay for missed calls on Local Services Ads?

Since October 1, sometimes. Google told advertisers in an August 25 notice that a missed call during business hours can be charged when the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds. A required keypress starts that timer. Google's public help page still described the older rule on October 2, so check your invoice, not the help page.

Question 3

Why does your ad show the wrong phone number?

Advertisers have reported some local ads displaying the Business Profile number instead of the ad's tracking number. Calls from the ad then count as profile calls, which makes the ad look weaker than it is. Note the dates it happened and read ad and profile calls together until it is fixed.

Question 4

What do you do about leads from outside your service area?

Dispute them. Reports on October 1 described Local Services Ads showing in areas the advertiser did not select, including Florida firms appearing in California. Screenshot your area settings, list the out-of-area leads with dates, and send both with the dispute.
