Featured Snippet
A highlighted answer box at the top of Google search results (position zero) that pulls a direct answer from a website, giving that site maximum visibility above all other organic results.
Why It Matters for Your Business
Featured snippets are position zero, above every other organic result. They get roughly 8% of all clicks for that search, and they establish your business as the authoritative answer to that question. For local businesses, earning even a few featured snippets can dramatically increase visibility and trust.
When a Space Coast homeowner searches "how much does a new roof cost in Florida" and your roofing company's answer appears in the featured snippet, you've just become the authority before they even see your competitors.
How It Works
Google selects featured snippets based on content format and quality:
- 1.Paragraph SnippetsA direct 40-60 word answer to a 'what is' or 'why' question. Structure your answer immediately after the H2 heading that asks the question.
- 2.List SnippetsNumbered or bulleted lists for 'how to' or 'best of' queries. Use ordered lists for steps and unordered lists for collections. Keep items concise.
- 3.Table SnippetsComparison or data-heavy queries pull tables directly from your page. Use HTML tables with clear headers for pricing, comparisons, or specifications.
- 4.Video SnippetsFor some queries, Google shows a YouTube video clip. Having video content matching common customer questions gives you an extra chance at the snippet.
The fastest way to find snippet opportunities: search your main keywords and look for "People Also Ask" boxes. Each question is a potential featured snippet. Write a clear, direct answer to each one on your website.
A Titusville landscaping company wrote a blog post answering "when to fertilize your lawn in Florida" with a clear monthly schedule table. Google pulled that table as a featured snippet, driving 300+ monthly visits from a single query. Those visitors then explored their landscaping services.
